Xela | Guatemala

Starting on March 20, 2026, the Alliance Française of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala, hosts the exhibition Digital Art, Digital Culture by Houda Bakkali. The exhibition integrates physical and digital works in which the use of augmented reality, animation, and interactive elements predominates, proposing an exhibition format that allows the public to explore new forms of artistic interaction and interpretation.

The exhibition is complemented by a virtual gallery, multimedia content, and informative and educational resources aimed at contextualizing digital art, its applications, uses, and main challenges within the contemporary cultural landscape. The project is developed within the framework of the Month of Francophonie, an international event that celebrates the diversity of Francophone cultures.

Through the convergence of physical media and digital technologies, the exhibition examines the potential of the combination of creativity and digital tools to expand the limits of the traditional exhibition space, promoting access, learning, and cultural exchange among diverse audiences, beyond spatial, temporal, or generational barriers.

The use of technologies such as augmented reality, virtual environments, and multimedia resources strengthens communication between the artwork, the exhibition space, and the public. This approach fosters a participatory and bidirectional experience in which visitor interaction becomes a key element in the process of cultural and educational exchange.

Workshop: Creativity and New Technologies Beyond Art

Within the framework of the Month of Francophonie 2026, an international event celebrating the diversity of Francophone cultures, Houda Bakkali will conduct a workshop titled “CREATIVITY AND NEW TECHNOLOGIES BEYOND ART” at the Alliance Française of Xela, Guatemala.

An event open to all audiences, the workshop will address the challenges and advantages of new technologies applied to art, their impact on areas such as communication and marketing, their influence on cultural institutions and traditional artistic practice, as well as the new opportunities they create for creatives in fields such as medical-scientific research, education, and tourism.

The workshop is structured in two parts: a first theoretical section and a second practical section focused on augmented reality, exploring some of its tools, uses, and applications, as well as the challenges this technology represents in art and how it can take it beyond the limits of the canvas.

Participants will also explore the creative process through an example focused on the relationship between creativity and science.

“New technologies applied to art open new opportunities for cultural institutions and creatives. They add versatility and new languages that enrich the art ecosystem from different perspectives. Understanding some of these technologies, how they are impacting society, their uses and applications, approaching the strengths and weaknesses of their tools, or determining when and why to make use of them, are the main objectives of this workshop. To learn, compare, practice, and debate an innovation that is already part of the normality of our present and that invites us to learn, move forward, be creative, and build the future through deep knowledge.”comments Houda Bakkali.
