Madrid | Spain

To begin 2024, the year marking the 40th anniversary of the Alliance Française de Madrid, the institution is hosting the innovative exhibition by artist Houda Bakkali. All of her canvases share the distinctive feature of being created through augmented reality, immersing the audience at the heart of the exhibition through interactive visits designed to showcase the digital techniques used in the artist’s creative process. The collection will be on display for two months at the Alliance Française de Madrid and will be the only opportunity to see Bakkali’s exhibition in Spain in 2024.

The exhibition is available free of charge from January 12 to March 2, 2024, from Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and on Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“The Seven Deadly Sins”

In this exhibition at the Alliance Française de Madrid, Bakkali presents her series “The Seven Deadly Sins,” which invites viewers to reflect on the society that has been created through an ironic and playful perspective. The masks encourage the viewer to reflect, while the digital technique invites interaction with the different versions, creating a common thread between the seven pieces. The exhibition is complemented by an educational tour during which the public can learn more about the digital techniques used and the creative process, as well as enjoy immersive versions of each canvas through augmented reality and expand the exhibition’s content in the metaverse.

New technologies applied to creativity create a symbiosis between the most traditional forms of art and their most contemporary narratives, inviting viewers to experience them firsthand.
