In 2020, Houda Bakkali was officially received by the Municipality of Sanremo during a ceremony hosted by the city. The presentation was attended by Mayor Alberto Biancheri, the President of the City Council Alessandro Il Grande, and the Councillor for Culture Silviana Ormea.

On this occasion, Bakkali presented The Flowers of Happiness, a mixed media canvas featuring immersive augmented reality, conceived as a tribute to Sanremo, the City of Flowers, and to its spirit of beauty, colour, rebirth, and optimism.

This moment marked the first public and official presentation of Houda Bakkali’s work in Italy, positioning her digital and immersive practice within an institutional context of cultural recognition and technological innovation.

In 2021, Houda Bakkali dedicated Divertimento to the Casino di Sanremo, as part of her Loving Italy series. The work celebrated the atmosphere of the Casino through colour, elegance, music, play, and theatrical joy, extending her visual language into one of Sanremo’s most emblematic cultural venues.

The artwork was officially presented at the Casino di Sanremo to Alessandro Il Grande, President of the Sanremo City Council, reinforcing the institutional and cultural significance of the project within the city’s contemporary cultural landscape. The initiative was also acknowledged by Barbara Biale, member of the Board of Directors of the Casino di Sanremo, who highlighted Bakkali’s vibrant tribute to the city, its flowers, and its Casino.

Through Divertimento, Bakkali reinforced her connection with Sanremo and Italy, presenting digital and augmented reality art as a contemporary language of cultural identity, optimism, innovation, and institutional dialogue.
