Over the course of three months, Houda Bakkali developed an immersive digital art network across six civic centres in Barcelona, presenting a pioneering initiative featuring large-scale physical artworks, digital illustration, animation, augmented reality, metaverse experiences and participatory workshops with the Arab woman as the protagonist. Digital technologies expanded each exhibition beyond the physical venue, creating new ways for audiences to engage with the opportunities and challenges of digital culture.
The exhibition’s central figure, an Arab woman conceived as a tribute to Bakkali’s mother, embodies the values of strength and optimism that define much of her artistic practice. Bakkali’s initiative reinforced the role of digital innovation as a tool for public engagement and digital literacy, bringing different audiences closer to both the opportunities and the challenges of emerging technologies.
